It’s that time of of year again and we’re all gearing up for the Summer Sligo League, this year it’s extended to 10 Rounds, and the first of Two TT’s get us under way on the 16th of June.

With the Team points & Prizes now nipped in the bud our attention switches to searching for individual honours and overall category winners.

At the business end of the categories we expect to be highly competitive in A3 & A4 both in the road races and individual Timed events, a knee injury still keeps Davoren on the side lines but he’s hopeful he may get a runout towards the end of the summer, it leaves Mark Scanlon in the scratch with Brian Sexton but with massive improvement in form & fitness this year, surely Keith Raymond and Enda Mc Loughlin will be there to help out if called upon, Keith now having moved up to A3 with his win at A4 Connacht Championship last year surely he’s favourite to win the local A3 category outright? I’m sure Desi may have something to say about that and he will be hard beat on Both the Hill Climb events in Leitrim later in the summer.

In the A4 Category we have 3 strong riders too, Enda as we mentioned will be doing his best to move up out of A3 as early as possible and will be using the sligo league for racing experience. Vinny Doherty is another man due to move up in rank and when he’s about, he’s always good for a stage win on the night, Ronan Currid is showing great form this year & He TT’s very well too, so he should be there or there about in all the Individual events, he finished 2nd in LC last year so he’ll be looking to go one better maybe.

But forget all that the Limited Competition is where it’s at & it’s what the Sligo league is all about! Surely everyone who starts a race in this category has the belief they could have a chance of winning, a chance of staying away from the scratch and crossing the line first place ,surely they can find inspiration from previous years with the fantastic wins we had for Padraig Mc Guinn & John Sheridan, with a strong entry list we could see another famous win with the likes of Alan French, Alan McDonald, Jamie Devaney who are all going well on Roadies nights, Furthermore is there any man woman or child who’d bet against the Limerick Mountain Goat Ian Mulcahy doing a bit a damage to the standings in one of the Hill Climbs in Leitrim? let’s not forget Aidan with his over 50 License sneaking away with the ladies in the front group, surely he’d be worth a punt to stay away some night too? Who’d also like to see Marek take on the short 16kms TT, would he have the power to win some points over the short distance? Apart from Kate the girls have been very quiet this year, maybe Annabel is training behind closed doors and she’ll come into form on TT night, who knows! Irene sounds like she’s retiring on a high after her win in the ladies category last year.

All and All we have a great chance of collecting more silverware this year, But more importantly let’s see can we get as many bums on saddles and have more people mad for the racing bug and desire to keep improving year on year. Because that’s what it’s all about really isn’t it?

Ride safe everybody & Enjoy the summer
